Walking by Faith When the Future is Completely Invisible
How Abraham's ancient journey shows us how to trust God's unseen plans.
When I was in my late twenties, I resigned from a stable church position to plant a new ministry in an unfamiliar city. I had a wife, a toddler, and no guaranteed salary. I remember walking the empty streets of our new town at night, looking at the silent houses, and feeling a deep, cold panic. The map of my life had completely disappeared. I had no idea if we would survive the next six months.
Uncertainty is one of the most painful spaces a human can occupy. Our brains are wired to crave prediction and security. But the spiritual life is fundamentally built on walking through the fog.
If you are standing at a major crossroad today—unsure of your job, your health, or your family's future—the ancient call of Abraham offers a beautiful, grounding blueprint.
Go to the Land I Will Show You
In Genesis 12:1, God tells Abram (later Abraham): "Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you."
Notice the order of that command. God did not show Abram a map, detail the route, or explain the destination first. He said: "Go... to the land I *will* show you." Abram had to pack his tents, say goodbye to his family, and begin walking in absolute obedience *before* he saw the final destination.
Faith does not mean knowing where you are going; it means knowing Who you are walking with. If you can see the whole path ahead, it doesn't require faith. God deliberately keeps the future slightly obscured so that we remain closely tethered to Him, seeking His hand day-by-day.
